ID Check Process and FAQ
Instructions for completing the ID check
To complete the ID check, we need two pictures.
1) A picture of you holding your ID and a sheet of paper.
- The sheet of paper must contain today’s date and your Discord username (not your nickname or display name).
- Your face must be visible in the picture.
- On the ID, please block out all information except your photo and birthday. Use paper or a digital marker.
2) A close-up picture of your ID with the same sheet of paper.
- Again, please block out all information except your name and birthday.
Please note that we are a Twin Cities, Minnesota-based group. If your ID is not from here, we’re probably going to ask why you’re joining.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I’m trans and my ID is old and doesn’t match my appearance well.
A: MinneQ by our very nature is a Queer group. We understand IDs can be out of date, and that sharing an old ID pic feels vulnerable. You may wait to show your ID at an in person event if you choose, but recognize that this will limit your server access until that is completed.
Q: Is this the same as becoming a MinneQ Member?
A: No. The ID check is simply to confirm you are 18+ as this is a community for adults.
Becoming a MinneQ Member means that you’ve attended a public in-person event and have met a moderator. Learn more about becoming a MinneQ Member.
You can complete the ID check when meeting a moderator for the first time, but they are different processes.
Q: I don’t have a piece of paper handy. I’ll just type up that info on my computer and have that in the shot.
A: No. A piece of paper. It can be a post-it note or a gum wrapper, but it needs to be physical paper.
Q: My license just expired. Is that okay?
A: We are not TSA, and you are not trying to board the MinneQ plane. We are only concerned with verifying that you are 18 or older, and an expired ID shows that just fine.
Q: Is my passport okay?
A: Any government issued ID that lists a birthday and has a photo.
Yes: Drivers license, state ID, passport card/book, military ID, green card, enhanced tribal cards
No: School ID, birth certificates, social security cards.
